Hand Penetrating Computer for Domain ComputerSecurity.cc

Fighting Spam

The most important way to avoid spam is not to give out your email address. For this reason, many people have a good email account that is trusted and another one for possible spammers. You give the good email address to family and friends and give the spammed email out to companies and for offers that you fill out online.

If the email address becomes a spam target, it is best to just get a new email address. One way that spammers test out the address is to put something at the bottom for opting out. If you try and opt out, they know a real human is reading it and will spam you even more. The best option is to quietly delete the incoming emails and hope for the best.

Gotta Keep the Email Address

If you really want to keep the email address, there are some things you can do. For one thing, you can configure the SMTP relay so that you will only get mail from your network domain. Spammers like to bounce in from all over the place to stay anonymous and this will help stop them. You can also go to spam cop and, for a fee, they will help you fight the spam. You can also make sure that your mail server is not set up as an open relay because that is what spammers use to get around anonymously.

Viruses and Phishing

Many emails will try and scare you into doing something. For example, a common fraud is to tell you that your Paypal account needs verified. If you click on the email link it goes to a fake Paypal page to steal your login and password information. You should always verify over the phone with the actual company before doing anything. Double check things to see that they are real and don’t trust the email.
