Logging Activity
You should frequently check the router and firewall logs to see what ports are being connected to. Look for ports that are known to run malware such as port 12345 (Netbus) or 31337 (back Orifice).
Look for non productive internet use. For example, any instant messenger services, media players, and http downloads. Focus on getting rid of these non productive internet usages.
Last, but not least, look for suspect UDP, TCP, and ICMP connections.
