Secure FTP (S/FTP or SFTP)
Ftp is used to download and upload files to a server. These files can be intercepted because Ftp is not secure and has known vulnerabilities. That is why Secure Ftp is now needed. SFTP uses SSL to encrypt data in transit.
One bad thing about regular ftp is that userid and password are sent over in the clear and any packet sniffer can easily retrieve the information.
